1 Peter 1:18-19 (NIV)

Bible Verse Of The Day ~ Sunday, February 5, 2012

Often times, we cherish and try to carry on traditions or special things that we have learned from our family. It becomes important for us to hand down stories, objects, and beliefs from generation to generation. This becomes very important to us. It is wonderful to have family heirlooms and things to remember our ancestors from. However, if we let the things of this world have more influence on us than the things of Jesus, we can run into trouble. Lets take a look.

1 Peter 1:18-19 (NIV)

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. “

The Implication

It is important for us to remember the best gift we were ever given. That is the gift of Jesus Christ. It is fine and even lovely to remember our culture and family history. It is wonderful to have family heirlooms to pass from generation to generation. It is important to remember though, these items are here and can be passed from generation to generation because we cannot take them with us.

Thus, the most important thing to pass from generation to generation is our teaching of Christ and our belief in Jesus Christ. The most important thing we can help future generations develop is a personal relationship with Jesus. This is the only thing we can bring with us into our eternal life and this is the one thing that will truly benefit all of those that we love!
