Improve Self Worth By Looking Through The Eyes Of Jesus

Many people deal with self worth issues due to circumstances and emotional baggage that has accumulated throughout the years. Everybody has been wronged by somebody else in one way or another. Amazingly though, many people are their own worst critics or their own worst enemies.

A friend of mine who happens to be a coach had several ladies on her team do an exercise where they recorded the words that came to them regarding their body and their image of themselves. Each and every one of the women wrote down the word “disgusting.” It is amazing to think that so many of us would use the word “disgusting” to describe ourselves. Really, most of us would never consider using that word to describe anybody else. It is important for us to see ourselves the way Jesus sees us, so that we can fulfill the purposes Jesus has for us on this Earth.

As Christians, we know that Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sins and we have been completely forgiven of any flaws that we might have. Thus, in the eyes of God, we are completely perfect. God already knows everything we have ever done and everything we will ever do that isn’t right. In fact, it has long since been forgiven and our slates are clean. In the eyes of God, we are perfect in every way and His love for us is perfect and pure. Feeling and seeing the love God has for us is an amazing experience. I have been blessed enough to have experienced this 3 times in my life and every time it took my breath away. I was in absolute awe of the overwhelming strength and perfection of the love I felt. It is unlike any love I have ever felt from another human being. It is a truly humbling experience.

My question is, if God has forgiven us of our transgressions and we know that the price of our imperfections and sin has already been paid, why do we hold onto it so hard? If we forgive ourselves and look past the flaws to the perfect being the Lord has allowed us to be, we can truly feel and experience the love God has for us and we can love ourselves truly. When we allow ourselves to forgive and we are able to see through the eyes of Christ, amazing healing is able to take place. Perhaps this is the mustard seed faith Jesus recognized in those He healed during His time on Earth. Perhaps forgiving ourselves takes enough humility to touch Jesus’ cloak, knowing that such an act will bring about the mercy of the Lord and He will transform us.

I have many flaws that I have held onto tightly over the past several decades, as this has been demonstrated to me by people I love and hold dear. Generational bondage seems to be a real thing and it is hard to break. Maybe breaking it doesn’t come from sheer will, brute strength, or anything that we can do ourselves. Perhaps the healing comes in truly laying it at the feet of Jesus and having enough faith and humility to allow Jesus to completely heal us. If you find yourself in a place where you have struggled with something for what seems like a lifetime, and no matter what you do you cannot seem to get past it, take a moment to pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to intercede on your behalf and pray for healing through faith, and the ability to see yourself the way God sees you.

A Prayer For Healing

Jesus, I feel broken and alone even though I know that you have already paid the price for my sins and transgressions. I continue to see myself as the sinful and hurt child I once was, and what I see is not pleasant. I am asking you to help me see me the way you see me. I want to heal completely so that I can fulfill the purpose you put me here to fulfill. I want to be healthy and well and do your good work. I am touching the bottom of your cloak, and from faith alone, I am asking you to heal me. In this case Lord, I am blind, deaf, mute, and my heart is not opened. Allow the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the mute to speak, and the heart to open to accept what you have for me. I love you Lord and I love myself. I desire to love myself the way you love me, fully and completely. I ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you on my behalf and pray for me in ways I cannot. I ask for your energy, Lord, to heal me and make me whole and complete.

In your wonderful and holy name I pray, Jesus!

Amen!
