About This Angel

Pick this up and something about it stops you. There's no face, no painted expression, nothing trying to tell you what to feel. Just the shape of an angel, carved by hand from olive wood, and it works better that way, at least in my experience.

I've handed these to people who weren't even especially religious and watched them turn it over in their fingers for a minute without saying anything. That kind of quiet is hard to manufacture. It's 4.3 inches tall, small enough for a pocket or a nightstand, and every single one has a different grain pattern running through it.

If you're looking for an olive wood faceless angel to buy as a gift or keep for yourself, this is a piece that holds its meaning without needing to explain it. These angels are hand carved in Bethlehem, not imported and relabeled, and the difference shows.

From Our Family to Yours

Hi, I'm Elias. I grew up watching my father work with the carving families near Manger Square, and I've been running Zuluf since 2007. The faceless design is one I've always felt strongly about. There's something in it that invites you in instead of closing you out, and I think that's why these angels order so well for people across so many different occasions. Every piece ships directly from our Bethlehem workshop.

Perfect As a Gift

A customer from Ohio wrote to us last year. She'd ordered one of these as an angels baptism gift for her niece, then came back two weeks later and ordered four more for her confirmation group. She said it was the first gift in years where she didn't feel like she had to explain it to the person receiving it. I liked that.

It works for almost any occasion where something quiet and meaningful fits better than something loud. Free US shipping on orders over $100, and we ship worldwide from Bethlehem.

The Story Behind It

Most angel figurines you find online are factory-made somewhere with no connection to the place or the faith. These are different. The families who carve them have been working olive wood from the Holy Land for generations, and it shows in the way the shape is handled.

The olive wood itself comes from annual pruning of living trees. Nobody cuts a tree down for it. The carvers take what the orchards give them, and they work with the grain, not against it, which is part of why every piece comes out a little different.

I've been in these workshops. Third generation artisans, same tools, same streets near Manger Square. When you order one of these angels from us, you're buying directly from the people who made it. No importers in between, no markups stacked on top of markups. That matters to me, and I think it matters to most people once they know it.

Care Instructions

Olive wood is low maintenance. If it starts looking a little dry, rub a small drop of olive oil into it with a cloth and that's usually enough to bring it back. Don't soak it in water and it'll stay looking good for years.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this actually made in Bethlehem or is that just marketing?

Yeah, genuinely. The families carving these are people I know by name. My dad built those relationships before I took over the shop, and I've kept working with the same guys. It's not a warehouse situation, it's a handful of artisan families in Bethlehem who've been doing this for generations. I've visited, I've seen the workshops. Anyway, the short answer is yes, actually Bethlehem.

Is it real olive wood?

Real olive wood. Not a veneer, not a composite. You'll see the grain variation when you hold it, every single one looks a little different because of that.

How big is this thing?

4.3 inches tall.

Does this come in a gift box?

It does, comes packaged and ready to give. Honestly it's one of those gifts that doesn't need much explanation, people pick it up and kind of just... sit with it for a second. The faceless thing sounds odd until you see it in person, then it makes sense why we sell so many of these.

What's your shipping situation, and do you do bulk pricing for churches?

Pretty standard, ships in a couple days usually. Free shipping if you're over $100 and you're in the US. For bulk church orders, just email me directly, we've worked out pricing for groups before, it's not a formal program but I'm not gonna make a church pay full retail on twenty pieces.
