My name is Elias Zuluf. I run this operation out of Beit Sahour, Bethlehem - a small town in the Holy Land, about a five-minute walk from the Shepherds' Fields where the angels appeared to the shepherds on Christmas night. Our workshop sits right in the middle of it.

We have over 20 artisans working across 14 small family workshops - all local, all Christian families, all trained in traditional olive wood carving from Bethlehem. They carve crosses, nativity sets, rosaries, figurines, ornaments, home decor - a mix of hand carving and basic machines like table saws for rough cutting. The detail work is all done by hand. That's why no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

How We Handcraft Olive Wood - From Raw Wood to Finished Piece

People always ask how we make these pieces. There's no secret formula - it's years of practice, good wood, and a lot of patience. My father taught me, and his father taught him. Here's how it works:

1	We Source the Wood Locally All our olive wood comes from pruned branches of ancient olive trees in the Bethlehem region. We never cut down a living tree - we use what the trees naturally shed. Some of these trees are over 2,000 years old. The wood gets dried and cured for months before we touch it.
2	Hand-Carved by Our Artisans Each piece is shaped and carved by hand. Our artisans use basic machines like table saws for rough cutting, and traditional chisels and hand tools for the detail work - every face on a nativity figure, every curve on a cross - is shaped by a human hand. That's why no two pieces are ever exactly the same.
3	Sanded, Polished & Inspected After carving, each piece is sanded multiple times to get that smooth, warm feel olive wood is known for. Then it's polished to bring out the grain. We inspect every single piece before it goes into packaging - if it doesn't meet our standard, it doesn't ship.
4	Carefully Packed & Shipped Worldwide We pack everything ourselves - bubble wrap, custom boxes, the works. Wholesale orders get extra care because we know you're counting on us. We don't send free samples - but we make it easy to try before you commit. Place a small retail order first (3+ items get automatic volume discounts: 5-25% off based on quantity). Hold the pieces, feel the weight, see the finish in person. Once you're happy with the quality, apply for a wholesale account for proper bulk pricing (up to 70% off retail). Most of our long-term wholesale partners started exactly this way.

Do you offer custom engraving or private label olive wood products?

We do it all the time. Names, dates, Bible verses, church logos, business logos - whatever you need. We also do custom packaging and private labeling for stores that want their own branding on the products. Minimum quantities apply for custom work, but we'll work with you on it.

Where is the Zuluf olive wood factory located?

Beit Sahour, Bethlehem - about 10 km south of Jerusalem, right in the Holy Land. If you know where the Shepherds' Fields are, we're a five-minute walk from there. Our workshop has been in this same spot since 2007. It's a real place with real people, and you're welcome to visit anytime - we've had wholesale partners fly in from the US, Canada, Australia, Germany, you name it.

How long does international shipping take from Bethlehem?

Production takes 1-2 weeks depending on how big the order is. After that, international shipping from Bethlehem runs about 2-4 weeks to most countries. If you're in a rush for something, let us know - we've pulled off tight deadlines before. We ship to the US, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, and 50+ other countries.
