About This Nativity
There's a moment when you set this down on a shelf and step back and it just looks right. The olive wood stable, the bark roof, the small painted figures inside, it comes together in a way that feels less like decoration and more like something you'd actually want to look at every day.
This is a real manger scene, not a mass-produced import. The stable is hand-carved olive wood from Bethlehem, and every gypsum nativity figure inside it, the Holy Family, the shepherds, the wise men, the animals, was hand-cast and painted by the same families who've been doing this work for generations. You can see the difference when you hold it.
If you're looking for olive wood nativity figures that actually come from where the story happened, this is it. Factory-direct from Bethlehem, which means you're not paying for a middleman, you're paying for the piece.
From Our Family to Yours
Hi, I'm Elias. I grew up around these nativities, literally, my father had them stacked in the back room every October waiting for Christmas orders. I've been running Zuluf since 2007 and I still get a little particular about which ones we carry. This olive wood manger scene is one I keep coming back to, the bark roof detail is what gets me. Ships directly from us, near Manger Square.

Perfect As a Gift
A pastor in Texas ordered six of these a few years back, one for each family in his congregation that had just moved to a new home. He said he wanted them to have something from the actual city of Bethlehem to put up at Christmas. That stuck with me. It's a nativities gift idea that carries real weight, not just something pretty to unwrap.

The Story Behind It
Most nativity scenes you find online are factory-made somewhere with no connection to Bethlehem at all. These are different. The families carving the olive wood stable and casting the gypsum figures live and work in Bethlehem, within a few kilometers of where this story actually took place.
That's not marketing. It's just where they are. Third-generation craftspeople who learned this from their fathers, who learned it from theirs. The olive wood itself comes from annual tree pruning, living trees, nothing cut down. It's a sustainable practice that's been part of this community for a long time, and your order keeps those workshops running.
I think about that when I'm boxing up a christmas manger scene for someone in Ohio or California. They're getting something made by a real family, in a real place, for a real reason. That matters, at least to me.

Care Instructions
The olive wood stable is low maintenance. If it starts looking a little dry after years of use, rub a small drop of olive oil into it with a cloth and it'll come right back. Don't soak it in water. The gypsum figures just need a light dusting, that's about it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I give this as a gift, does it come ready to go?
Yeah, it does. We wrap it up pretty carefully because the gypsum figures are fragile and I've had a few arrive broken in the past when we didn't pack them right. Now we double-box anything with figures. So it arrives looking like a gift, not like something that got thrown in a mailer.
Are the figures painted by hand or is that printed on?
Hand-painted. Every one of them, the whole Holy Family, the shepherds, all of it.
We're buying several of these for our church's Christmas event, is there any way to get a deal on bulk orders?
So this comes up a lot around October and November and honestly I try to work with people when I can. It's not like we've a formal wholesale page or anything, it's more just reach out and tell me what you're looking at quantity-wise and we'll figure something out. I've done orders for churches before, a school once too I think... anyway, just email me directly and I'll give you an actual number instead of making you calculate it yourself.
Do the figures come out of the stable or are they attached?
They sit inside, not glued down. You can move them around.
Is this actually made in Bethlehem or just branded that way?
Genuinely made there, I'm not just slapping a label on it. The families we work with have been doing this for a long time, my dad built relationships with some of them years ago before I was running things. The olive wood comes from the region, the carving's done there, the figures are made there. It's not assembled somewhere else and shipped to Bethlehem for a sticker, that'd be a weird business model honestly.
