Olive Wood God Bless Our Home Heart Plaque with Carved Olive Branches, Bethlehem

What it is: A hand-carved olive wood heart plaque from Bethlehem, 16.4 x 14.8 x 2 cm (6.46 x 5.83 x 0.79 inches), 190 grams. Raised cursive lettering reads "God Bless Our Home". Two olive branches are carved directly out of the wood and applied to the upper corners as a frame, giving the piece a softer, more natural feel than our medallion versions. A small gold sunburst container at the bottom holds a sealed capsule of real Bethlehem frankincense. Pre-installed brass triangle hanger on the back.

From Where I am Sitting

This is the version of our heart plaque without a saint or Madonna medallion on it. People order this when they want the home blessing message and the Bethlehem provenance, but the recipient is interfaith, less observant, or a friend they are not sure about icon preference for. The carved olive branches at the corners do the work the medallion would have done, with no specific religious figure to navigate. Easier to give. Same olive wood, same workshop, same frankincense.

The story of this piece

The olive branches at the upper corners are carved from a separate piece of olive wood and applied to the heart, not pressed or stamped, which is why each pair has slightly different leaf positions. Olive branches as a Christian symbol of peace go back to Genesis 8 and the dove returning to Noah, and they show up in early Bethlehem icon work as a side decoration to home blessing pieces. The wood comes from olive groves in Beit Sahour, on the eastern edge of Bethlehem, pruned in late 2025 and air dried 14 months before the carvers cut the heart blanks.

Who this is for

People give this to interfaith couples, to neighbors who are not sure they want a saint figure on their wall, and to friends moving into a first apartment. It is the most-given variant of our heart plaques because the recipient does not need to be Catholic or Orthodox to want it on the wall.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the olive branches carved into the wood or applied separately?

Carved from a second piece of olive wood and pegged into the heart from behind. Each pair has slightly different leaf positions, the carvers do them by eye, never by template.

What is the difference between this and your other God Bless Our Home heart plaques?

The other heart plaques carry a metal medallion (Madonna and Child or Holy Family) in the upper right corner. This one has hand carved olive branches in both upper corners instead of a religious figure medallion. It is the version we recommend for interfaith homes or when you are not sure of the recipient's denomination preference. Wood, lettering, frankincense capsule, brass hanger and overall size are the same.

Does the frankincense capsule lose its scent over time?

The capsule is sealed so the scent fades very slowly, by design. Faint at arm's length, stronger up close. The resin itself stays viable for years inside the capsule.

How do I care for olive wood over time?

Wipe with a dry cotton cloth. Once a year, rub a drop of olive oil into the wood with your finger to keep the grain alive. Keep out of direct sunlight or radiator heat.
