About This Figure
There's a moment in Matthew 14 where Peter steps out of the boat and starts to sink, and Jesus reaches out and pulls him up. That's what this piece captures. Not the miracle, exactly. The reaching.
This is one of the more ambitious wood carving sculptures we carry. Two figures, water movement, flowing garments, all cut by hand from a single block of genuine olive wood from the Holy Land. If you're looking for large wood sculptures for sale that actually carry spiritual weight, this is a different category of object than what you'll find in a gift shop. The grain runs warm and natural through every surface, and because it's hand carved, the light catches differently depending on where you set it.
We get customers who come to us looking for figures hand carved with real detail, not the molded kind where every copy is identical. This one stops people in a room. I've watched it happen.
From Our Family to Yours
Hi, I'm Elias. I've been handling pieces like this since I was a kid following my father around the workshops near Manger Square. This sculpture is one of the most detailed figures we carry, two figures carved from one block of olive wood hand carved right here in Bethlehem, and every time I pick it up I notice something new in the wood. If you want to figures order online with confidence, this ships directly from us, no middlemen, no warehouses in between.

A priest in Texas ordered this for a parishioner who was going through something very hard. He told me later she keeps it on her nightstand and touches it every morning. That's the kind of figures gift idea that isn't replaceable by something off a shelf.
This works for milestone moments and serious occasions. If someone's going through a confirmation, a baptism, or a season of doubt, this piece says something that words don't always manage. Free US shipping over $50, and we ship worldwide from Bethlehem.

The Story Behind It
Most wood sculptures for sale online are cast resin, or they're carved overseas in factories with no connection to the story they're depicting. Ours are different. The families who carve these pieces live minutes from the Church of the Nativity. They've been working olive wood for three generations, and the craft gets passed down the same way it always has, by watching and doing, not by manual.
The olive wood itself comes from annual pruning of living trees. Nobody's cutting anything down. It's a sustainable material with deep roots in this land, and the carvers know every characteristic of it, how the grain moves, where the harder sections are, how to work around a knot or let it become part of the figure. That knowledge shows in a piece like this one, where the water and the garments and the two figures all read clearly even in a single block of wood.
When you buy this, you're buying directly from us. Factory-direct, no importers in between. That's why the price reflects the actual work, and why the families who do that work can keep doing it.

Care Instructions
Olive wood is low maintenance. If the surface starts looking dry, rub a small drop of olive oil into it with a soft cloth and it'll come right back. Don't soak it in water. That's about it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this come in a gift box or do I need to package it myself?
Yeah, it comes boxed. We pack these pretty carefully because two figures carved together is more fragile than a single piece. I've had a few arrive with a chipped hand over the years and it's not fun for anyone, so we added extra padding. Good to go as a gift straight out of the box.
Is this actually hand carved or is that just a marketing thing?
Hand carved. Real olive wood from the Holy Land, not a factory mold with a wood finish. You can see the tool marks up close if you look, every one comes out a little different.
How fast does this ship?
Pretty standard, ships in a couple days usually. Free shipping if you're over fifty bucks.
Our church wants to order several of these, any kind of deal for bulk orders?
So this one's honestly not the easiest piece to stock in bulk because... okay let me back up. The carvers make these individually, two figures from one block, the water movement and the garments take a while to get right. We do have a few on hand but if you're talking like ten or more, reach out directly and I'll tell you what's realistic timeline-wise. I'm not going to promise a number I can't deliver.
Is it heavy or more of a lightweight decorative piece?
Solid weight, olive wood's dense. It's not going anywhere if you set it on a shelf.
