A Note from the Workshop
I asked the silversmith if we could try a two-tone version using the diamond-cut rose-gold plating on the inner cross. He said it was tricky to get the rose gold to bond cleanly over the silver but he made it work. The result is the most striking piece in our silver line, a real talking point that still respects the traditional five-fold design.
The Story of this Piece
The five-fold Jerusalem Cross design, one large central cross surrounded by four smaller crosses, has been carried as a Christian symbol since the era of the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem (founded 1099 AD). It represents the spread of Christianity from Jerusalem to the four corners of the earth. This particular pendant traces back to a small Bethlehem workshop where it is struck from solid sterling silver wire, hand-shaped, polished, and stamped before being checked under hallmark certification.
How and Who This Pendant is For
Worn daily as a faith reminder, or given as a milestone gift for baptism, first communion, confirmation, christening, ordination, Easter, Christmas, Mothers Day, or as a Bethlehem memento for pilgrims returning from the Holy Land. The piece is unisex and pairs well with any chain up to 3 mm thick.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the rose-gold part real solid gold?
No. To be clear under FTC Jewelry Guides, the rose-gold accent is a thin rose-gold plating bonded over the sterling silver inner cross. The base body of the pendant is solid 925 sterling silver, not plated. The two-tone effect is standard fine-jewelry finishing.
Is this real sterling silver?
Yes. The base body is solid Sterling Silver 925, hand-stamped 925 JERUSALEM on the back. 92.5 percent pure silver throughout. Only the inner cross accent has the rose-gold plating over the silver.
What is the diamond-cut effect on the inner cross?
Diamond-cut means tiny diagonal stripes cut into the surface that catch and reflect light. It is a traditional sterling-silver and gold finishing technique, applied by hand to the rose-gold-plated inner cross of this pendant.
What is the size?
The pendant is 2.8 cm (1.1 inch) tall by 1.9 cm (0.75 inch) wide, weighing 1.9 grams. This is the largest piece in our Bethlehem silver collection.
Does the rose-gold plating wear off over time?
With daily wear, all plated finishes will eventually thin over years of use. We use a thicker plating layer than mass-market jewelry to extend the life. Avoid chemicals and store in a soft pouch to maximize longevity.
Care: Sterling silver oxidizes slowly. Wipe with a soft polishing cloth to restore shine. Avoid chlorine, perfume, and lotions. Store in the velvet pouch when not worn.
