About This Communion Bread Tray

Pick this up and the first thing you notice is how small and purposeful it is. Not decorative. Not oversized. Just a shallow dish, 3.7 inches across, sized exactly for what it's meant to hold, one wafer, a small torn portion, a host for a home blessing.

The olive wood communion bread is right there in the grain of the thing. You can see it, tan and brown lines running through each piece, and no two are identical. The finish is natural, no varnish, no stain, food-safe and honest. It's the kind of object that feels appropriate on an altar and doesn't feel out of place in a sick-call kit or on a bedside table either.

The rim is wide enough to catch every crumb. That matters more than it sounds during a rite. Bethlehem carvers have been making pieces like this for generations and the proportions show it, nothing wasted, nothing missing.

From Our Family to Yours

Hi, I'm Elias. I've been handling olive wood pieces from our Bethlehem workshop since I was a kid, and this paten is one of those items that looks simple until you actually use it in a communion setting. Then you understand why the dimensions are exactly what they are. Every one of these ships directly from us, no warehouses, no middlemen.

Perfect As a Gift

A pastor contacted us a couple of years ago. He needed something small and meaningful to include in sick-call kits for homebound parishioners. He ordered a dozen of these trays. Told me later that a few of the families set them up on their bedside tables and kept them there long after they recovered. That stuck with me.

The Story Behind It

Most communion ware you find online is factory-made somewhere without any particular connection to the material or the faith. These come from Christian artisan families in Bethlehem who have been carving olive wood from the Holy Land for three generations. Same families, same craft, same workshop streets I walked as a kid.

The olive wood itself comes from annual pruning of living trees. Nobody's cutting anything down. The trees keep growing, the branches get carved, and the families who do this work keep their trade alive because people like you order directly from us. No importer markup, no warehouse in between.

There's something I've always liked about this particular piece, honestly. It's so plainly what it is. No decoration, no branding, just a small olive wood dish shaped for a specific moment in a rite that's been practiced for two thousand years. That's not nothing, at least to me.

Care Instructions

Olive wood is low maintenance. If it starts looking dry, rub a small drop of olive oil into it with a cloth and that's all it needs. Don't soak it in water and it'll last for years.

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is this tray actually?

3.7 inches across, about 1.6 inches deep. Fits one wafer or a small torn piece comfortably.

Is this real olive wood or just printed to look like it?

Real olive wood. Not a veneer, not a print. So the grain on yours won't look exactly like the photos, every piece comes out a little different depending on which part of the tree it was cut from. I've packed probably 400 of these over the years and I still look at the grain on each one before it goes in the box... anyway, yeah. Genuine Holy Land olive wood, sanded smooth, no varnish on it so it stays food-safe.

Does it ship in something decent if I'm giving it as a gift?

It comes boxed, so it travels well. Honestly for a gift I'd say it's pretty presentable as-is, nothing fancy but it's not just bubble wrap either.

Is this actually made in Bethlehem?

Yeah, genuinely. Not a warehouse in New Jersey. The artisan families who carve these are the same ones we've been working with since my dad started this. Bethlehem. Real people, real workshop.

How fast does it ship?

Pretty standard, ships in a couple days usually. Free shipping if you're in the US and over fifty bucks.
