The Story Behind It

The families who carve these have been working olive wood in Bethlehem since long before any of us were born. Same craft, same neighborhood, handed down generation to generation. Most olive wood you see online is mass-produced somewhere far from the Holy Land. Ours is not.

The wood comes from annual pruning of living trees, no tree gets cut down to make a heart. Branches that would have been trimmed anyway end up in someone hands in Ohio, Texas, Australia. That chain of events still gets to me.

Care Instructions

Olive wood is low maintenance. If it dries out, rub a drop of olive oil into it with a cloth and the color comes back. Do not soak it in water. That is really it.
