This is a 3-piece olive wood nativity set carved as three separate relief panels from Bethlehem. Each panel shows a different element of the nativity scene (Holy Family centerpiece plus two supporting scenes), carved to depth from solid olive wood. Tallest panel approximately 9.9 x 6.4 x 2.5 cm (3.9 x 2.5 x 1.0 inches), combined weight about 142 grams. Display all three together as one grouped scene, or place them separately around a room. This is a 3-piece olive wood nativity set carved as three separate relief panels from Bethlehem.

Three carved relief panels in graduated sizes: a centerpiece holy family panel with mary, joseph, and baby jesus, flanked by two smaller supporting panels showing additional carved figures and scene elements. Three separate solid olive wood panels, relief carved on the front face of each, flat backs, no joinery between panels, designed to be arranged freely.

What This Piece Means

Three panels instead of one was the carver's idea, not mine. He said it lets a family display the scene gradually through Advent, one panel out, then another, then the third on Christmas Eve. I liked that enough to put it into production exactly as he suggested. The smallest gestures end up being the most thoughtful ones.

The Story of this Piece

Three-panel nativities are an old tradition in icon making, the carver borrowed the format and adapted it to flat relief on olive wood instead of painted gesso boards. Each panel can be moved independently, which lets you stage the scene differently in different rooms.

Care Instructions

Olive wood needs almost no maintenance. If it looks dry after years of indoor display, rub a single drop of food grade olive oil into the surface with a soft cloth. Don't soak it, don't put it in a dishwasher, don't display it outdoors in direct rain. Indoor humidity changes are normal and fine.

No. The set is designed so each panel can stand on its own or be grouped with the others. Many customers space them across a mantel with candles between, or put one on a hall console and the other two in the dining room.

Are all three panels the same size?

No, they are graduated. The centerpiece Holy Family panel is the tallest at approximately 9.9 cm, the two supporting panels are slightly shorter, which creates a natural visual hierarchy when grouped.

Can the panels stand without falling over?

Yes. Each has a flat base and sufficient depth (2.5 cm) to stay upright on its own. For very smooth surfaces a small museum putty under each base adds extra stability.

Is each panel sold separately, or only as the 3-piece set?

The set ships as three pieces together at one combined price. We do not sell them individually.

What happens if one panel arrives looking different from the photo?

Subtle differences in grain pattern and minor carving details are normal, since each panel is hand carved one at a time. The overall design, sizing, and scene composition will match.
